Communication Page: Monday, July 6th

It is 11:00 am on Monday and according to the email message below (and not one has said otherwise) we have decided not to change anything and go with last version of "It Starts in the Playground" and with the current revised documents. Good luck, everyone- Irma

Last Email:

It is Sunday, and I have not heard anyone's opinion on the versions, except for Anh, but I think everyone wanted no music on the first two scenes (version 1) so that is the one we will use for our final version. I changed the font a bit and put in the credits.

It is up on You Tube and ready to go and it is called, "It Starts in the Playground." If you have a different opinion or any questions, please email us ASAP (deadline midnight tonight). We would like to finish up.

I have revised the documents on our wiki page, if there is anything that needs changing,
please email everyone by midnight tonight. If everyone decides on a change, we will do it, but all changes need to done by noon tomorrow.

REMEMBER: Do not try to change anything after 12:00 pm (lunch) tomorrow, as we would all like to be able to turn in our work and we all have to submit
the same video and documents, it is part of our collaboration grade.

-If there are no changes, it was great working with you all, and we'll see you at our next class!

-If you see some things that need changing or really want to choose a different video version, please, please email us ASAP--by midnight tonight or forever hold your peace!

Thanks, again,

Irma :)

Communication Page: Sunday, July 5th

Needs to be turn in by tomorrow:
-The paperwork (Proposal, Script & Narration, Shot List, & Storyboard). We need to submit it using the Week 5 "Revised Pre-Productions Document" assignment space.
-Our individual PSA reflection that goes on our blog.
-Our individual Course Reflection that goes on our wiki.
- The PSA video. It goes on your course Wiki (add a new page). We are leaning towards the PSA version 1, it is now called, "It Starts in the Playground."

Communication Page: Saturday, July 4th

PSA Version 1 is uploaded. It has no music in scene 1 & 2. This is probably the one. The final version is called "It Starts in the Playground."
PSA Version 2 is uploaded. It has low music in scene 1 & 2, if you want to look at it.
PSA Version 3 is also uploaded (it has Nestor's narration and bully scene).
Anh is going to put in a 4th version with her own music.

I went in and updated our proposal, script & narration, shot list, & storyboard. I need someone else to take a look at it and make sure it looks good and is ready to go.

Communication Page: Friday, July 3rd

Google Chat summary:
Scene 1: Need to lower or remove music.
Scene 2: Majority selected the Adult Protesters (Irma's film) scene. We need to lower for remove music
Scene 3: Majority selected the Basketball bullies (Angela's film) scene.
Scene 4: Majority selected the Pushing Bully (Irma's film) scene.

Decided to go with Angela's (her husbands) narration.

We are going to produce at least three versions:
1. No music in scene 1 & 2.
2. Lower music in scene 1 & 2.
3. If I have time, I would like to add a third version: One with Nestor's bully scene, just to see what it would look like.
4. Anh's music that has different type of music for the different scenes.

FYI: Also, Nestor send me a narration also. I will include it with version 3 so you guys can check it out.

I hope to have all this done and uploaded by Saturday midnight so we can vote on the final video Sunday and begin to work on checking our paperwork, making sure it matches our changes. You should be working on your reflections already. We are almost done!

Communication Page: Thursday, July 2nd

Google chat @ 9:00 pm for final discussions on video.
Irma-Can't make the 6:00 pm chat.

I wanted to chat tonight, to find out:
  • If anyone else was going to produce a final video. I do not mind doing it (in fact I will enjoy it), but I did not want to take the opportunity away from anyone else who would like to experience editing the movie. If someone else was also going to produce a final video, then we will need the extra step of watching all the videos produced, then voting on the one to turn in. If no one else is doing one, then we can eliminate the voting step, but we can still watch the video I produce and you can make any suggestions for revisions before we turn it in.
  • What adult bully scene we would like to use. We have Anh's and Angela's and because of the time factor, we need to select one. At this time, I would probably go with Angela's for a couple of reasons, 1. I have already edited her footage and it works with the rest of the film. 2. Angela needs to contribute toward the project and Anh has already contributed the Shot List. But I would like everyone else's opinion and we can go with the majority decision.
  • If anyone else is going to contribute a version of the narration. Terhea has turn one in and I believe I can use it, but I was going to ask Terhea or anyone else, if we can get a male voice. It would just sound more powerful.
  • If we remembered about the document revisions. Once the final video is edited and ready to go, we need to go back and revise the proposal, shot list, storyboard, etc. to match the final video.

Communication Page: Wednesday, July 1st

Uploaded raw film footage and emailed narration due today.

Communication Page: Tuesday, June 30th

Anh/1:31 pm- Yea, count me in for Thursday chat too.
Angela (10:23 a.m.) - I am fine with Thursday at 6:00 pm

Communication Page: Monday, June 29th

Uploaded raw film footage due on Wed, July 1st. Shall we Google chat, to discuss the final editing part? Maybe Thursday @ 6:00 pm?

Irma/6:43 pm- I forgot Saturday is 4th of July. Thursday for a Google chat sounds good to me. Everyone needs to have their footage uploaded by then so we can discuss them. I will shoot out an email requesting a chat on Thursday. How about 6.00 pm?

Angela (5:12 p.m.) - Any day is fine for me to chat. I just need to know in advance so I can get to one of my husband's realtive's house to use their internet.

My talents for the adult bullying basketball scene were Eric Garza and Jaime Traya and I was the camera person.

Anh/12:50 pm- Irma, you're absolutely right. We don't have anything to turn in this week. I hope I did not get anyone confused yet.

Anh/9:18 am- I'll check to see if we do not need to turn anything in this week. I'll keep you guys posted sometime today. Can we chat late Thursday evening since some of us might go out of town this weekend? I'm not going anywhere so Saturday will work for me, but in case it will not for someone else.

Here are my actors name: Anh & Nathan (talents), spy_008 (camera man)
An idea to put a scene from each filmmaker sounds good to me. First of all, it makes our project a truly collaborative video like Irma said. Secondly, it gives everyone a feeling that any work/contribution from each member is greatly appreciated :)

Irma/12:19 am I do not think we turn anything in this week. We were just supposed to do our filming. Let me know if I am wrong.

As for the audio- I am going to have my husband read the text voiceover. If anyone else wants to also do it, send us your audio file via attached email. For other audio, I can use Garageband for any music needed, and public domain sites for other audio. I have a draft version of the full PSA video, so we could see how our story board came out at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kZVlfBBIpL8

I did not want to worry about copyright issues, so I used Garageband to create the background music (it is a little loud in some parts-I can adjust that) and I created the graphic at the end using Powerpoint. The only copyright products I used were the audio for the war sounds and protesters sounds and they came from a public domain site, so we are good on that end. I would like to put up all the credits at the end of the film. Send us your actors names we can put them there too.

Once we have everyone's footage uploaded we can decide together what film footages go where (Google chat, Saturday?). I would like to try to put in a scene from each filmmaker to truly make this a collaborative video. Have a good week.

Communication Page: Sunday, June 28th

Anh/10:55p.m- I just uploaded both raw footage and edited versions. Please check them out. Let me know if there is anything else you want me to do :) So how are we going to turn in this week assignment? Also does anyone record the audio part?

Angela (7:17p.m. 6/28/09) - I just got to back to Houston. I will be leaving on Wednesday evening back out of town, but I can go to one of my husband's relative's houses to get on the internet so I can help out.

Irma/3:46 pm How is everybody doing?

Working on: Film Assignments

Upload your raw footage at You Tube
Username: etlpproject@gmail.comPwd: educator2

Irma/1:07 am When using this page, can everyone post at the top of all the previous posts, even if you are responding to something said near the bottom. That way we can tell what the most recent communication was--Thanks.

BTW, I was able to download Angela's footage and had no problem editing it on iMovie. You Tube is working out great. And Audacity is pretty cool software. I was able to make my voice sound like a guys and I gave it an echo. You can tell I'm having fun! ;)

Communication Page: Friday, June 26th

Angela (1:46pm 6/27/09)- I was under the impression we were to use Audacity for the narrator's lines also. So do I upload my footage today and then put it into audicity later? I am out of town for my husband's grandparents anniversary. I will be back in Houston on Saturday night or maybe even Sunday. I just uploaded an adult bullying video on youtube. It's over a game of basketball. I wil get back with y'all when I get to Houston so I can help someone in another area.
Irma/5:4pm - Angela, Upload your footage without narration (you can have the actors talking if it fits the script) . The final video has to have the same narrator throughout the film. After everyone has uploaded film, when we put them all together, then we will use Audacity to put in sounds and narration from one person.

=Ann- I think Irma is right about the individual blog posts. We each need to write our own reflection based on the five questions located on the Week 5 assignment folder. Then we each have to upload the reflection our personal blog (created for the 2nd course--Leadership for Accountability) I'm going to email Daphne to find out too...will let you guys know once I hear from her.

Ok, I need a quick verification on the footage..I'm going to film the adults bullying scene this weekend with friends. Since Nestor mentioned about recording the dialogues using Audacity, I thought we only record the narrator's line...so are we supposed to record the talents' line as well?

Irma/5:46 pm- Ann, I say if you can record the talents' lines as well, that would be great. We can always cut it out later, if we do not like it. I am recording my mourning scene with me sobbing. But if I do not like it, I am going to cut it out and add sobbing with audacity.

Working on: Film Assignments

Irma/8:52pm -Nestor, I have not looked into the blog yet, but I was under the impression that we each had to write our own individual blog posts,in our own blogs, reflecting our own personal experience of the video assignment.

But if the blog is going to be from all of us, for sure, we all write it together.

Also, when we doing our filming, are we all doing our own sound effects, or do we wait for the editing? I was under the impression that we were only filming raw footage and uploading it and only after we were putting it all together would we put in the effects, narration, and music.

Nestor_ Irma, you are right, we need to keep track of our communications. That is part of the team work documentation.
I shooted the scene of the protest against war with my students, I also shooted the scene of the bullying in the park . I used Audacity to record dialogues, wallas, and music.
I think I should use garage band for the music, since it should be original.
If anybody is doing the same shots, I think that is better because that way we will be able to compare.
Irma, since you are working on the blog. Is okay for us to collaborate in the entries?

Irma/11:22 am- Ann-I will look into the question about the 150-word blog.

Communication Page:

Wednesday, June 24th

Angela (6/24 4:41p.m.) - I understood that we were turning in all footage by Friday, June 26 midnight? Did I get Fridays mixed up?

Ann- Irma, did you keep the records of our communication page after deleting the conversations? I checked our week 4 assignment grade rubrics and noticed that there is a grade for teamwork. I thought of our communication page logs can also be used as our supported documents. Just a thought!! I know that we would have other pages to submit even if we did not keep the communication logs.

Irma- No I have not but I can start.

Our footages due to the group by midnite Friday, right?

Actually at this point I am little confused about the dates. We had decided the footages were due on on July 3rd (Next Friday) and the final video (after editing) was due on July 5th. But I thought maybe we need to go by your original suggestion and move up the footages to July 1st, to make sure we have enough editing time.

We have 12 days, almost two weeks. That would give us 8 days to shoot the raw film and 5 days for editing. Editing may take longer than we think.

According to the syllabus:
By the end of the 4th week (This coming Monday), June 29th, we need to have:

  • Use audacity to record our audio.
  • Follow (and update) project proposal and shot list
  • Shoot footage for final project, We need an establishing shot, a closing shot, plus both wide and tight shots,
So no film is due. (But, maybe we have have the audio recorded and on some audio hosting site)

By the end of the 5th week, July 6th, we need to:

  • Finalize all revisions to Pre-Production document.
  • Upload movie
  • Debrief about experiences
  • Complete a 150-word post on our individual blogs.
  • Complete table on assignment worksheet.

Everything is due by July 6th.

Ann, I need another set of eyes to confirm what I think I see in the syllabus. Do the due dates and assignments look right to you?-Thanks Irma

Ann/12:45- Thanks for the verification, Irma. The outline you have here for the assignments from the syllabus look right to me. That what I thought too. Now the only part I'm confused is the reflection one. I know we have that due on Week 5, but under Week5 Assignment folder, I see we'll have to write a reflection for 5 different questions with 150-word for each. Then we still have to complete a 150-word post on our blogs or they refer as the same assignment?

Anh- Nestor, I know you're now working on the film scene instead of animation. Let me know if you need help on the scene or anything else..

Nestor,
For the second sequence, maybe we can shoot someone carrying an antiwar poster (with a person on each side of him) as they are walking.
Start out with a close up on the words, and the words are bouncing, because...
when you pan out, you fade in with an audio of a large group of protesters (we can probably find audio on the internet) and you can see that someone is holding the sign as they are walking,. You do not have to pan out too far just enough give the impression that there is a large march going on. Then the frame freezes and the text zooms in.

Picture_6.pngPicture_9.pngPicture_13.png

Anyway, that would be an easy way to do it. Just an idea.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ann/7:34 Team, I cut and paste our proposal information in the Word format that we are supposed to turn in tonight...I upload it here in case anyone hasn't had chance to do so...
